The epic

Progressive Parts wanted to personalise the shopping experience by allowing customers to filter car parts using a licence plate number lookup. This would enable customers to find parts tailored to their vehicle’s make and model. Additionally, they wanted to use this data to personalise marketing, ensuring customers received offers and deals relevant to their specific vehicles.

Our approach

We integrated Progressive Parts’ dataset with the existing middleware and license plate (VRM) lookups. Here’s how we did it:

 

  1. Connecting to middleware: When a user searches for car parts by entering their licence plate number, the search request is sent to the middleware. The middleware performs a VRM API search to identify the user’s car model, and then returns a list of compatible parts based on the car model.
  2. Data Sharing with Klaviyo: We integrated the vehicle data (brand, model, engine size, color, wheel type, fuel type, year of manufacture, cylinder, brake system) with Klaviyo, a marketing automation platform. This enables Progressive Parts to deliver highly targeted marketing campaigns.
  3. “My Garage” Feature: We built a “My Garage” feature within customer accounts, allowing users to add and manage their vehicles. This feature saves vehicle data against the customer’s profile, enhancing the user experience.
